Paul Priestley's recent paintings challenge reality by breaking space and exploring line and texture
This painting video shows the recent art work of artist Paul Priestley. I am preparing for an art exhibition that will take place in 2024. These acrylic paintings explore the use of texture line and shape, whilst some play with our perceptions of space. The paintings are displayed in Paul Priestley's art studio but can be seen in much more detail at Paul's website:
paulpriestleyart.com/my-art-work
You will notice how I have not used colour 'realistically' but in a more intuitive way based on trying to get a mood or feeling to the paintings. You will also notice in some I have played with the use of space, breaking space up in such a way the brain has to think more about the reality. It also has to work harder to place in space what it it familiar with. the use of line has been used deliberately to break up the space and create new meaning.

    Sir, I subscribed, but I need to take more classes from you. Please keep posting, Sir. I am an 44 year old lady who recently started learning how to draw. When I was a kid, I begged my mother for two things 1. Dancing and 2. drawing. Both are unfulfilled. Not because of money, neither for the absence of drawing school. There was a drawing school after 6 buildings from my building. My mom simply didn't like that's why I didn't get the chance to learn. Instead, she forced me into music lessons, which I didn't like. My marriage is also forced on me. Finally, now my kid is 19 years old, so I took the initiative to love myself and started learning. Your videos are easy to follow. So I request you to post more, Sir, please. ( Sorry for the bad English.)

      I will be posting again in the future, but a number of things have happened in my personal life which has delayed things. I have just bought a house which needs lots of renovation when that is finished I shall post again.

    Tell us about your board. Recommended size. Is it plywood, masonite? How thick? Decades ago I took a water color class in college, and he had old newsprint fastened/with tacks, then we would add the cloth/paper and tape it with masking tape if I recall correctly.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart Місяць тому

      The board is plywood, I wouldn't worry about the board, any board will do the job.

    Just seeing you draw in the outlines at the beginning flipped a switch in my head and made me think "how did I not realize this sooner?!". I had been drawing human faces and hands for months and gained a basic understanding of perspective but for some reason drawing landscapes felt foreign to me and It didn't occur to me to use the same observation techniques that I used previously when drawing from reference. This video reminded me that a lot of the fundamentals I learned before apply to all subjects not just one.
